Habit 2 of the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful LIfelong Learners

As I teacher in a high school setting, I pondered at Habit #2 - Accept responsibility for your own learning. I wish all students would think about lifelong learning and how it improves them. I wish students understood that school is just a stepping stone for the rest of their life and they will have to continue to learn after high school: how to do a job, how to be a parent, how to do lots of things. For many, it’s too late to understand that high school is a great opportunity to learn and there are many people there to help you. I wish I knew how to get them to understand this.

Thank goodness there are many students who take responsibility for their learning. It's too bad they all don't.

Hi Bookaholic,
I hear you. This has been a high anxiety assignment for me as well. However, I, too, am feeling more confident. It certainly does take quite a lot of time. I think I am pretty structured in my thinking that I shouldn't spend too much time playing on my job. We want it to be fun so let's keep trying. I am extremely lucky to have very talented and "willing to help" techies at my library. Good luck, Bookaholic.
